چکیده

We predict theoretically and observe in experiment that the differential conductance of a superconducting SET transistor exhibits a peak which is a complete analogue in a macroscopic system of a standard resonant tunneling peak associated with tunneling through a single quantum state. In particular, in a symmetric transistor, the peak height is universal and equal to e/2πh̄. Away from the resonance we clearly observe the co-tunneling current which in contrast to the normal-metal transistor varies linearly with the bias voltage. Macroscopic resonant tunneling of magnetic flux

We have developed a quantitative theory of resonant tunneling of magnetic flux between discrete macroscopically distinct quantum states in superconducting quantum interference device systems. The theory is based on the standard density-matrix approach. Its elements include the discussion of the two different relaxation mechanisms that exist for the double-well potential, and description of the ...

Charge sensitivity of superconducting single-electron transistor

It is shown that the noise-limited charge sensitivity of a single-electron transistor using superconductors (of either SISIS or NISIN type) operating near the threshold of quasiparticle tunneling, can be considerably higher than that of a similar transistor made of normal metals or semiconductors. The reason is that the superconducting energy gap, in contrast to the Coulomb blockade, is not sme...

Aharonov-Casher-effect suppression of macroscopic tunneling of magnetic flux.

We suggest a system in which the amplitude of macroscopic flux tunneling can be modulated via the Aharonov-Casher effect. The system is an rf SQUID with the Josephson junction replaced by a Bloch transistor--two junctions separated by a small superconducting island on which the charge can be induced by an external gate voltage. When the Josephson coupling energies of the junctions are equal and...

Resonant cooper-pair tunneling: quantum noise and measurement characteristics.

We study the quantum charge noise and measurement properties of the double Cooper-pair resonance point in a superconducting single-electron transistor (SSET) coupled to a Josephson charge qubit. Using a density-matrix approach for the coupled system, we obtain a full description of the measurement backaction; for weak coupling, this is used to extract the quantum charge noise. Unlike the case o...

dc measurements of macroscopic quantum levels in a superconducting qubit structure with a time-ordered meter

dc measurements are made in a superconducting, persistent current qubit structure with a time-ordered meter. The persistent-current qubit has a double-well potential, with the two minima corresponding to magnetization states of opposite sign. Macroscopic resonant tunneling between the two wells is observed at values of energy bias that correspond to the positions of the calculated quantum level...
